I don't just buy the travel size for traveling, I buy the size for everyday use. I love playing with makeup. I love trying a product but sometimes it takes me a while to get though the entire container. I know you want me to use the product forever, but having me get tired of the product won't make me want to re-buy either. I want to be excited about the product and tell all of my friends- not get upset at myself for not liking it enough and toss it in the trash. Travel sizes give me a quick look at product, make me pay for it so I don't have to feel guilty for returning it, but actually give me enough product to see if I really like it.
For example, some serums I need to really give a good try before I can commit to the $50-100 + price tag. Drunk Elephant did this well in my opinion. They gave away a travel size of the DRUNK ELEPHANT Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser and now I have a good opinion of the brand. I can't get the same opinion in a one use sample. I'm looking forward to trying the DRUNK ELEPHANT C-Firma™ Day Serum which is $80. I would not have spent that much money on a serum if I didn't trust the brand.
Makeup companies need to earn each individuals trust. The best way to get trust is for people to try the product. Travel sizes are my favorite way of getting to know a brand. However, I wish travel sizes didn't all come in huge baskets and groups of products that you have to buy together. I don't need every product at the same time. Right now I have too many moisturizers but not enough cleansers. Don't make your customers waste product to try your product.
