Memorial Day Adventures: Wine tastings in NoVA

One of my favorite actives is to go to new wineries in the DC area.

Today I went to two amazing wineries.

The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards
They use all VA grapes, which is important to me. I'm trying to buy more local wines.

and 8 Chains North Winery.
Some of their grapes are from VA, but others are from the west coast.
However, they clearly mark on their labels which wines contain which grapes.

8 Chains North Winery had a tasting that paired with chocolate.
(The middle one tasted like cinnamon) 😄

Also, they had a fenced dog park (aww.... )

Here are the wines I purchased

The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards.

"2014 Chardonnay $26 | $8

This medium body, dry blend greets your senses with aromas of apples and peach. Fermented 3 months in french oak & 6 months in stainless steel."

"2014 Bank Barn Red $24 | $8
This is a light, medium body wine with light tannins and notes of blueberry, strawberry, and cranberry. It consists of Chambourcin, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon. "

8 Chains North Winery

"2014 NW Syrah

Sourced from Crawford Vineyards in Yakima Valley, Washington, this Syrah presents the classic, jammy fruit nose expected from a big Rhône varietal , yet has great structure and minerality on the palate and finish. Aged nine months in American and French oak. Pairs well with creamy brie and bleu cheeses, roasted vegetable dishes, and lamb."
