Wedding Dresses: The Hunt for Yes

I started trying on wedding dresses last weekend and I haven't said yes to any dress. I felt happy and frustrated when I put the dresses on. One) none of them came close to fitting and 2) it's only one day.

I want my dress to fit, but it's hard with my frame (4'10"). I know websites have petite dresses but they are not in the retail stores. I swear I'm going to have to special order a dress and hope it fits.  The inability to see a petite dress makes me less likely to buy a very expensive dress because what if it doesn't look good on me? I will have to buy another dress.  Thank goodness I have more than a year.
I really have changed from the high school me when I told my friends I would never wear the same dress more than once. Now I do it all the time, because my priorities have changed. Also when I buy something I know it looks great on me. However, there are many times when our society makes it almost mandatory to wear an item only once. For example, the red carpet or a prom. But what happens when the night fades to day and you go back to your regularly scheduled lives? I don't want to regret how much I spent on one day when I have the rest of my life to look forward to.

It should be this fabulous dress and you can only wear it once. Why can't their be more rent the dress stores (where you can try on the dress). Men get to rent tuxedo and no one says one word about how it's rented. I know I will be selling my dress (or donating it) after I wear mine because the act of keeping it makes me sad.  I don't have that much space in my closet and my hope is that someone will use it.

Does anyone know if there are any consignment wedding dress stores around DC?
