How to look cozy without loosing style points.

Sweater from the Gap

Ok, winter is here now and it's getting cold. This season brings great style with fabulous coats and boots; but, it also brings out snuggies and horrible sweaters that should only be worn when you are sick. Here are some tips for what to do when it's cold.

1) MAKE SURE THE SWEATSHIRT OR SWEATER FITS.
Just because the sweatshirt is super warm and comfy doesn't mean that you need to wear it in an extra- large when you are a small.

2) Try not to wear ALL black.
I always recommend wearing a least a pop of color.  If you're trying something more fashion forward your tights could be a bold color.

3) Invest in a good coat.
You most likely will be wearing this coat a lot, so make sure it fits perfectly. (hint visit your tailor).

What  do you wear when it gets cold?

Holiday Advice: How To Go Green (both money and energy)

So I was watching a documentary about sustainability and it got me thinking about Christmas and the holidays.  Here is a list of some things I am going to do this holiday, so I can save money, as well as energy.

1. have a potluck holiday party.
Having only one recipe to bake makes parties with friends more fun and definitely cheaper.

2. have a clothing swap party.
You don't have to just bring clothes; accessories (purses, belts, jewelry) are fun to swap too.

3. bring any clothes that need to be fixed to the tailor. I know I have at least 3 dresses that need to be fixed; therefore, I wouldn't "have to" go buy another dress. (Even though, it would be fun.) A $10 fix could save you a lot of money.

4.  bring any clothes that you were going to trash to Goodwill or another thrift shop. These thrift shops can sell even stained clothes or clothes with holes in them to other companies called rag sorters.  “85 percent of the 70 pounds of textiles the average American purchases each year ends up landfilled. "

5. Have a few friends over to make new outfits out of pieces that I haven't worn in a while.
- which will be a great photo shoot for this blog =:)

Happy Holidays!

How to Organize Your Closet

When I think about fashion, great outfits come to mind. However, what if you can't find that one dress that you are looking for? It doesn't matter how expensive the outfit is or what the outfit looks like if you can't find it.

Here are some simple rules which let me stay organized.

1. Use good hangers.
ex) Bed Bath and Beyond's Satin Padded Hangers
These give your clothes the space they need to stand out and hang properly. If clothes are pressed together you will never see them.

2. Once a year go through your ENTIRE closet and get rid/donate/sell all the items that you haven't worn in two years or more. This is true especially if the tags are still on them. If you have not worn it by now, you never are.

3. Have a honest friend take pictures of you in your favorite ten outfits. The photo and the friend will let you know if they are the outfits that SHOULD be your favorite. Just because you love the item, that doesn't mean the camera does.

4. Write down any items that you think that you are missing.
This way you can search for it before you hit the mall and buy something you don't need...again.

5. See if your formal dress are still appropriate for your life.
Prom was how many years ago? If more then four, then you should get rid of it. There are charities that are looking for prom dresses.

If anyone has anymore suggestions please feel free to add tips/comments.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming, what does this mean? Time with family, turkey or giving thanks for what we have? The answer is all of the above. I'm thankful for my family, friends and fashion. However, it also gives us fashionistas another chance to dress up. I love dressing up for holiday events. Thanksgiving dinner, I'm wearing a black cocktail dress and black pumps.

Another good thing about Thanksgiving is black friday. Can't wait!

How to stay cool at the beach

Updating my blog from the beach today. So I'm posting about how to not get burned at the beach.

1. Wear sunscreen... My favorite is

Neutrogena Fresh Cooling SPF 70 Body Mist Sunblock, 5 oz

2. Sit under an umbrella. This also makes it easier to read your beach book or magazine. A book I recommend for people that enjoy learning about how clothes are made and sold is:

The China Price: The True Cost of Chinese Competitive Advantage

3. Drink water

I like Propel Fitness water because it only has 10 calories and taste great.

....So what are your tricks to keeping cool out on the beach?
